Hi J. Is the wood trim framing the interior windows the old trim? Is to be painted or replaced? Were your window replacements all same size?

We’re going to be taking down and replacing all the window casing throughout the house, so that will all be new before we’re finished. The window replacements were actually all different sizes and none of them were standard… 🙂
We spent $3000 on new mid-grade vinyl replacement windows.
Hi J and thanks for your reply. Sorry, I didn’t make my question very clear about the window sizes. I was wondering if you ordered change outs to fit the spaces already there? Or if you changed sizes/shapes for the remodel. The house is already looking much more cohesive and I was wondering if the windows had anything to do with it.
If you don’t mind me asking, who did you use for mid-grade vinyl windows?

Other than the large new egress window in the basement and the new picture window going into the kitchen (both of which are new to the house), we didn’t change any window sizes. We ordered replacement windows to match the original sized windows in the house, which were all non-standard, unfortunately.
We used a brand called Viewpoint — white vinyl double-hung, low-e and argon for better insulation. Purchased from a large window supplier in Milwaukee.

1974, humm, you dropped under the 1978 rule. Is this due to Buyer perception or is it the code issues like cast iron pipe and lead water pipes and lead paint issues?

Hey GB,
Most of the housing stock in Milwaukee (where this project is taking place) was built prior to 1978. In fact, most of it was built in the 40s and 50s. This is one of the newer houses in the area…
The cast iron is standard for the area, and while there is probably some asbestos in some of the building materials, our contractors are all familiar with working on these older homes and the city building inspector is pretty clear on what’s required (and not required) in terms of abatement and renovation.
