We closed on The Rot House at the end of last week, and demo started this past Monday. In fact, due to the bad weather, my GC had his entire crew working on demo and the entire house was stripped (all flooring, cabinetry, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, etc, removed) within 3 hours. So, rehab started off great…
Unfortunately, as soon as demo was complete, my GC learned that — because we plan to finish a small room in the basement — the building department was going to need up to 5 days to review the permit application and drawing before releasing the permit. That means we’re at a standstill for probably the rest of the week. On the bright side, we finished demo, got cabinets ordered, got a couple windows ordered and we’re ready to get started again as soon as permits are released…
Here are some BEFORE pictures of this house: THE ROT HOUSE: BEFORE PICS
Hey J,
When your finishing basements, what’s the process with the city?
Thanks
Mike
Hey Mike,
This isn’t the city of Milwaukee…it’s actually a suburb (Brookfield). City of Brookfield requires a building permit with full architectural drawings and then all rough (framing, electrical, insulation) and final (electrical and C.O.) inspections. The permit process takes about 2 weeks, but inspections are completed very quickly.
This isn’t the city of Milwaukee…it’s actually a suburb (Brookfield).
Huh? Is this house in Wisconsin or Atlanta?
Luis,
It’s in a suburb of Milwaukee, WI (hence the name of the house :)…the city is Brookfield…
I am confused… this post is about The Rot House (#38), which is not in WI, but in GA, right?
Wow, looks like I’m getting my houses confused!
Levi and Luis are correct — this one is in Kennesaw, GA, NOT Wisconsin…for some reason, when I responded to Mike’s question above, I was thinking this was the WI-1 house… 🙂
Sorry about that!
